I have 40 years of experience, and specialize in the field of mortgages with specific knowledge in the areas of nationwide lending, underwriting and contracts. I have published on such topics as underwriting, profitability and quality. I have testified on industry standards, poor credit practices and servicing duties. I spent a year as an industry expert on a study group in the 1980’s that recommended Freddie Mac not be converted from a tightly controlled government agency to a stockholder owned entity with publicly listed stock and maintenance of a government mission. We concluded that the dual mission of government support of the housing market and response to private shareholders for profit maximization would create a disaster, which it did in 2008. We were overruled by politicians. Our economy still suffers from this bad idea and misdirection of resources.
