I have 20 years of experience, and specialize in the field of structural engineering with specific knowledge in the areas of commercial building renovation, docks and temporary rigging. I have published on such topics as dynamic effects due to impulsive loads. I have testified on a man falling through a roof under construction, construction of a retaining wall and personal injury due to a bull breaking through a gate of a livestock holding pen. My experience at MIT and my first position after graduate school allows me to see the limitations on load standards published by ASCE. They are far more approximate than the standards writing committees would admit, and when used in conjunction with very precise computer analysis make for a rather ridiculous coupling of very crude as opposed to very precise applications.
